In his house in Fuente Vaqueros he listened to the zapateo and the cantes del arte jondo thanks to his grandfather.  <\/span><b>Baldomero Garc\u00eda,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">  very fond of this genre. However, the poet&#8217;s musical training was born from the hand of his mother and his aunt Isabel.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the Vega of Granada, the artist learned popular songs <\/span><b>learned popular songs about festivals and agricultural tasks,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">  and from his nannies he learned lullabies and other popular songs, which awakened in him a great interest in the musical culture of the time that would later mark all his work. He builds on the popular and enhances it through his own artistic creation, leaving his mark on some of his most recognized poems.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During his student years he met personalities of the cultural world such as Salvador Dal\u00ed, Luis Bu\u00f1uel, Pedro Salinas or Maruja Mallo, but what was really decisive was to meet Ram\u00f3n Men\u00e9ndez Pidal. <\/span><b>Ram\u00f3n Men\u00e9ndez Pidal,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">  who initiates him to take notes of the oral romances of the gypsies of the city. And this is precisely what got him interested in cante jondo.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>What is your relationship with flamenco?  <\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the field of flamenco, Lorca has been one of the poets who has made the greatest contribution. He was one of the first to understand that culture had to approach the popular.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Such was the poet&#8217;s interest in flamenco that he dedicated to this art form his work <\/span><b>&#8220;Poema del cante jondo&#8221; (Poem of flamenco singing)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (1921) y <\/span><b>Romancero Gitano&#8221; (1921) and &#8220;Romancero Gitano&#8221; (1921).<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">  (1928), where the feeling of seguiriyas, saetas, soleares or peteneras is captured. All of them, literary and musical genres of flamenco. But this interest in flamenco and gypsy culture is also reflected in his theatrical works, above all in &#8220;<\/span><b>Bodas de Sangre&#8221; (Blood Wedding) <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(1933), <\/span><b>&#8220;Yerma&#8221;<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (1934) y <\/span><b>&#8220;La Casa de Bernarda Alba&#8221; (The House of Bernarda Alba)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (1939).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But in addition, in his eagerness to preserve popular traditions, in June 1922 he organized together with Manuel de Falla the I Concurso de Cante Jondo. As well as two  <\/span><b>conferences <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;<\/span><i><br \/>\n  <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Historical and artistic importance of the primitive Andalusian song, called cante jondo&#8221;.<\/span><br \/>\n<\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (1922) y &#8220;<\/span><i><br \/>\n  <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Game and theory of the duende<\/span><br \/>\n<\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;(1933), which allowed him to develop his own aesthetic belief of the &#8220;jondo&#8221;.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Lorca&#8217;s influence on flamenco<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Because of this, the relationship of this author with the &#8220;jondo&#8221; and with popular culture has generated an enormous attraction in the world of flamenco for the texts of the poet and playwright. An interest generated by the recording of popular songs by  <\/span><b>&#8220;La Argentinita&#8221;.  <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">some of which were later adapted by artists such as &#8220;La Ni\u00f1a de los Peines&#8221;, Paco de Luc\u00eda or Pepe Marchena. But, undoubtedly, the artists who have received the most influence and inspiration from the poet were Camar\u00f3n de la Isla and Enrique Morente.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Camar\u00f3n de la Isla: the artist adapted several of Lorca&#8217;s poems, such as &#8220;<\/b><i><br \/>\n  <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The legend of time<\/span><br \/>\n<\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: <\/span><i><br \/>\n  <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">My girl went to sea&#8221;<\/span><br \/>\n<\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, &#8220;<\/span><i><br \/>\n  <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Homage to Federico&#8221;<\/span><br \/>\n<\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, &#8220;<\/span><i><br \/>\n  <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Romance del Amargo&#8221;<\/span><br \/>\n<\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, &#8220;<\/span><i><br \/>\n  <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lullaby of the big horse&#8221;<\/span><br \/>\n<\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">  and that of the disc title. In addition, following the trend, in &#8220;<\/span><i><br \/>\n  <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Soy Gitano&#8221; (I am a Gypsy)<\/span><br \/>\n<\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> includes &#8220;<\/span><i><br \/>\n  <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Casida de las palomas oscuras&#8221;,<\/span><br \/>\n<\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8220;<\/span><i><br \/>\n  <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Romance of Thamar and Amnon&#8221;.<\/span><br \/>\n<\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and a new version of the <\/span><i><br \/>\n  <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lullaby of the big horse<\/span><br \/>\n<\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. And in  <\/span><i><br \/>\n  <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;Calle Real&#8221;<\/span><br \/>\n<\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> adapts the &#8220;<\/span><i><br \/>\n  <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Romance of the moon, moon&#8221;<\/span><br \/>\n<\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Enrique Morente:  <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in 1972 adapts for tangos some excerpts from  <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;Do\u00f1a Rosita la Soltera&#8221;  <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in his work  <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;The language of flowers&#8221;.  <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And, later, in &#8220;Omega y Lorca&#8221;, he adapts excerpts from  <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;Poet in New York&#8221;.<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">  Por buler\u00edas, in &#8220;Negra, si t\u00fa supieras&#8221;, and so on numerous occasions, becoming a great genius renovator of cante jondo.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In short, the close relationship between <b>Lorca and flamenco<\/b> throughout his life led him to be inspired by this wonderful art, but also to various flamenco artists who have been inspired by him for the realization of their works. Even through a collective tribute &#8220;Los gitanos cantan a Federico Garc\u00eda Lorca&#8221; (Gypsies sing Federico Garc\u00eda Lorca), a flamenco album which includes the lyrics of his poems.<b><\/b><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Although many do not know it, Lorca is flamenco.
